- Willie Mosconi ruled
- the sport of pocket
- billiards, or pool, from
- 1941 through 1957.
- During that time he won
- 15 world championships.
-
- Willie got his first taste of pocket billiards at
- the age of 6. His father, Joseph, owned a
- boxing gym and billiard parlor. But Joseph
- did not want his children playing billiards.
- Every night, he would lock up the balls and
- cue sticks. That didnΓÇÖt stop Willie. He would
- sneak down to the table at night and practice
- with a broomstick and potatoes.
-
- By age 7, Willie had become tired of the
- sport. As a teen, he picked it up again.
- He won his first tournament at age 19.
